PINK & BLUE Project

I AM AWARE is a design I created as an awareness symbol for perinatal and infant loss, also known as PAIL.
Pink and Blue are the National colours for PAIL awareness. October is PAIL awareness month, and October 15 is PAIL awareness day.

MY STORY
.
In October 2014, I was expecting a baby. I had just purchased a car for our new family and began my maternity leave. I was a week overdue and went in for a check-up, the night  before I had a bit of an emotional melt down, feeling like something was wrong, and was relieved to be at the hospital, I was going to ask for an induction.
.
We began the ultrasound, and the tech rushed out of the room to grab my OB. Then, when he came in,  the most horrible words came... "I'm sorry".
Her name was Story Ardith, born October 21 2014.

.
Families go through this same traumatic bereaving experience every day across the world. 1 in 4 families are torn apart by child loss and lack a severe amount of support and resources afterwards. Information is so lacking that families often become recluse, and turn to no-one for understanding or comfort, never resolving their grief.
.
"Suffering in silence"
.
This lack of support and awareness can lead to things like anxiety disorders, PTSD, and severe depression. Misunderstanding and insensitive behavior is incredibly common among these situations.
.
The assumption that there is no heartache with perinatal and infant loss, and that it is simply something you push through and forget is greater than you would imagine, and it is only causing turmoil.
.
I have connected with many other families since the loss of my daughter and found that is a very tormenting and difficult experience for every single person who loses a child. It is an understanding that only those who have experienced it can share the feelings of anguish.
.
In order to get through to the other side of grief we need more support not just from our loved ones, but also our communities and governments. Spreading awareness will help the world learn more, understand more, and gain more compassion for those that have experienced the tragedy of child loss.
